Norman Delos Burrell

Norm passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 16, 2023 with his two children by his side. Norm was the son of the late Adam (Clara) Burrell and the late Ella (Dale) Tooman. He was preceded in death by his loving and faithful sidekick of almost 58 years, Judith Anne (Sorrell) Burrell. He was the best father to Todd and Lisa. Grandfather to Jason and Lauren (Jon) Roeschke. Great-grandfather to Colbie and Henry Roeschke. Bonus brother to Dixie (Robert) Sievers and Shirley (the late Gary) Cole and brother-in-law to the late Arleen (Ruel) Cobb and many nieces and nephews. Norm proudly served our country as a member of the US Navy stationed at Camp Pendleton, before becoming a sales rep with Wyeth Laboratories followed by Manpower, before striking out on his own. Norm founded Medical Data Management in 1972 and retired in 2018, passing down the business to his son and daughter to run with. Norm was a long time (and past President) member of the North End Chapter of Lions Club International and a 10th degree Mason. He enjoyed boating, golfing and extensive traveling with Judi, riding his tractor, cooking, a good laugh or practical joke, cultivating friendships, his many dogs over the years and of course…his OSU Buckeyes! A private interment will be at Great Lake National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan along with a memorial event that is being planned for a later date. Donations may be made in his (and Judi’s) name to Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester Hills, MI.

Condolence Messages

  1. Love and prayers to our Michigan family. May he rest in peace and have eternal blessings being reunited with Judi and other loved ones.

  2. Lisa and Todd,
I am so sorry for your loss. A dad’s job in life to raise his family and provide for them. Once his children are grown and on their own the relationship changes to a great friendship as well. I know you were both lucky enough to have a dad that was all of these things for you.
Cherish all your memories he gave you ❤️

  3. Lisa and Todd,
Thoughts and prayers are sent your way as you negotiate this season of loss.

  4. I had the good fortune to serve with him at Camp Pendleton and spent many weekends hunting with your dad. One weekend, I had invited a marine to join us only to find out that everyone else had other plans. It turned out the other plans were a going away party for me. While every else had a hangover, I kept my promise. Thst was the only time I encountered a rattlesnake. Probably because I was very awkward in my inebriated state. Fortunately, I killed him with first shot and immediately sobered up. The snake, not the marine. He will be missed.

  5. (Earl) Wayne Harris

I am deeply sorry for Norm’s family and friends loss. My prayers. He was a classmate of mine.
