Merice Hample

Merice Hample passed away peacefully at home in Shelby Township on November 15, 2016. She was 84. Merice was born in Italy and immigrated here when she was only five years old. She was incredibly proud of her Italian heritage and she eagerly shared that pride with everyone she met. She even carefully traced her genealogy back to the 1600’s on both her mother Clara Bernardi’s side and her father Louis Bernardi’s side. Merice settled in Michigan where she lived the rest of her life. She was remarkably talented with crafting and sewing and generously shared her creations with family, friends, and everyone she met. Merice is survived by her four children Roberta Jones, Karen Ernst, Charles Williams, and Darlene Cody, as well as her eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sister Roberta Molnar and her brothers Alfred Bernardi and Richard Bernardi. She was preceded in death by her husband Gideon “Bud” Hample and her brother Gerald Bernardi. It was Merice’s wish that there be no funeral. Instead, her immediate family will meet privately to celebrate her life and love. God bless Merice and her family and friends.
