James Perry Hutchinson

On October 24th, 2023, James Perry Hutchinson passed away peacefully in his Shelby Township home due to complications from Alzheimer’s. James was born in 1941 to Jim and Elsie Hutchinson in Detroit, Michigan. After high school graduation, he honorably served on Active Duty in the United States Air Force from 1962-1966. When he returned to Michigan, he began a career with Ford Motor Company as an electrician. He was promoted to Maintenance Supervisor and that was where he faithfully served until his retirement in 1999.

Jim, a.k.a. “Hutch”, had a love for building things, teaching, and gardening in his spare time. He took pride in his work and by example taught his children the value of a hard day’s work and a job well done. He built a horse barn with stalls and several wooden paddocks for his family’s horses. Jim worked constantly, but always made time for a laugh or a story. He loved spending time with his family or having a beer with his buddies. An avid hunter, Hutch also had a deep love and respect for all animals. He cared for a pair of ducks who made residence in his pool during the winter. He named these critters “Heckle and Jeckle”, and Jim made sure they were fed throughout the winters.

Jim was well known for his sense of humor, his love of telling stories, and his kind heart. He was a shining example of compassion, acceptance, and non-judgement. He will be deeply missed by those fortunate enough to know him. He is survived by his wife, Denise Hutchinson, four daughters, Rebecca, Beth, Samantha, and Jessica, and one son, David Francesconi, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two brothers, Michael Hutchinson, and Tom Hutchinson, four sisters, Sandy Benson, Deborah Hutchinson, Ann Hutchinson, preceded in death by sister Karen Hutchinson, and grandson Chastin James.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 10th, 2023 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church at 6785 Marlette Street, Marlette, MI 48453.
