Master Chief was mine and my husbands first experience with a Master Chief in the Navy (reserves). He set the standard that we expected from all the Master Chiefs we met in our 20 years of service. Master Chief and Senior Chief Lysse (Chief at that time) attended our boot camp graduation in 2002, that left such a lasting impression on me, made me feel significant, in a otherwise large Navy Reserve Center; Detroit. Our sincerest condolences, Fair winds and following seas Master Chief. HM1 (Ret.) Kelly Hartbarger and HM1 Mike Hartbarger.

    Alice and Family,
Ed was and still is an inspiration to me, he was an influential and highly respected man to all. We’ll miss him, but never forget him. His legacy with the Navy will live on, as the lessons he passed to us will be passed on for generations to come. Know that you were his pride and an extremely important part of the sacrifices in making our world a better place. We thank you for that. Take comfort in your fondest memories of him and please do not hesitate to ask if there is anything we can do to help you through this difficult time.

As a Navy wife Ed was always there to guide you and help you through the difficult days of initiation. He presented me and two other Navy wives with his retirement coin, which I will treasure forever. Beautiful memories of all the good times we shared with him.
