Marian Hayslett Gebbie

Marian (Hayslett) Gebbie, passed away on November 13, 2017. She was taken to the hospital that morning with chest pains and died early afternoon at the youthful age of 90. As many who knew her, she lived life enthusiastically and optimistically and exemplified the spirit of life through her generosity to others. Mere, as her family calls her, (or Mare, as she often refers to herself as a working horse), resided the past 2 years at her apartment in Shelby Township, Michigan. She remained active, with daily walks at Stony Creek Park, attending Red Hat functions, travelling, going on cruises, and epic card battles with family.
Marian was born in Dayton, Ohio August 6, 1927 and graduated from Miamisburg High School before attending Western Women’s College (now part of Miami University). She met her husband William while in college and was married in 1948. Together, they raised 6 children, William Jr, Robert, Thomas, Michael, Kenneth and Richard. Marian worked for Utica Public Schools as a bus driver which she called her “entertainment years” filled her football, baseball, swim meets and lots of music and theatre. Her husband passed in 2001, and in her widowhood, she traveled extensively, and spent time with her family.
Marian, not only lived life to the fullest, she brought life to her 6 children, 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild with 1 more due in December.
Marian wanted us to celebrate her life with all her family and friends at a Memorial Celebration which is being planned for January 2018. You may inquire about the Celebration by emailing Robert at rgebbie1@yahoo.com.
